AISIN Türkiye lights the way with a new Solar Power Plant

The inauguration of the new Solar Power Plant marks major milestone in sustainable transformation

Istanbul, Türkiye – September 5, 2025 AISIN Otomotive Parçaları San. ve Tic. A.Ş. (AISIN Türkiye) a manufacturing subsidiary of AISIN Corporation located in the industrial region of Istanbul, is proud to announce the official opening of its brand-new Solar Power Plant. This project not only reinforces AISIN Türkiye’s commitment to operational excellence and sustainable growth in the region but also marks a significant step in AISIN Corporation’s global transition toward renewable energy, demonstrating its long-term dedication to environmental responsibility and innovation. Serving major automakers across Europe and employing over 600 people, AISIN Türkiye continues to play a vital role in delivering high-quality automotive components while advancing sustainable manufacturing practices.

As part of AISIN Europe’s broader sustainability strategy, this project is one of the initiatives aimed at reaching 100% renewable electricity by 2025 for all European sites; renewable energy (including scope 1 that today uses gas + scope 2) by 2035 and carbon neutrality by 2040. The rationale for this project is two-fold:

  • On the short term, this is a strategic and operational move. It marks the achievement of the 2025 milestone in the AISIN Europe carbon neutrality roadmap. The power plant contributes to the factory’s operation energy consumption and represents a major improvement in the site’s energy autonomy.
  • On the longer term, this project is part of the company’s 2040 commitment to reach carbon neutrality for scope 1,2 and 3. Following the installation of a wind turbine at the Mons site in Belgium in 2023 (On-Site Power Generation in Mons: Another Milestone Towards AISIN Europe’s Carbon Neutrality Target | AI Think – Learning AISIN’s Now and Future), AISIN continues its momentum with concrete actions that show our partners, clients, and communities that the company is actively engaged in shaping a greener future.

From rooftops to land: The journey behind the Solar Plant

The journey to this milestone began in 2016, when AISIN Türkiye started exploring the feasibility of installing solar panels on the factory rooftop. However, the studies at the time revealed low efficiency and limited potential due to the roof construction of the factory is inadequate, the roof area is insufficient for the required energy, and on the other hand, the solar radiation efficiency of the area where the factory is located is low.

Everything changed in 2022, when new Turkish regulations allowed industrial facilities to build off-site solar power plants, produce up to twice their annual electricity needs, without requiring a license. AISIN Türkiye saw a unique opportunity and acted quickly: the company acquired land, designed a custom solar infrastructure, and initiated the construction of what would become a flagship renewable energy site for the group.

Technical Highlights of the Project

  • Location: Malatya Province, Republic of Türkiye
  • Installed Capacity: 11,288 kWp (9,700 kWe)
  • Construction area: ∑ 110,000 ㎡
  • Technology: high efficiency 585W TopCon bifacial photovoltaic panels
  • CO2 emissions reduction: about 8,800 tons/ year. This is the equivalent to the consumption needs of 1900 households’ energy use for 1 year and would require about 25,000 mature tree to absorb.
  • Energy generation: expected annual output of 19.2 GWh, covering more than 200 % of the plant’s consumption. Half of the energy generated is consumed in the AISIN Türkiye Plant, and the remaining energy is sold to the state.

More than an energy project – a broader sustainability mission

This initiative is not an isolated effort, but a meaningful part of AISIN’s broader global environmental strategy. Across Europe, AISIN is systematically investing in local, clean energy solution – from geothermal to wind and solar – with a clear ambition: This initiative is not an isolated effort, but a meaningful part of AISIN’s broader global environmental strategy. Across Europe, AISIN is systematically investing in local, clean energy solution – from geothermal to wind and solar – with a clear ambition: to reach full carbon neutrality by 2040..

“The opening ceremony of our solar power plant is a proud milestone for AISIN Türkiye and our entire global organization. This step reflects our shared commitment to sustainability and innovation and reinforces AISIN’s goal of achieving full renewable energy usage globally ahead of schedule. I extend my sincere thanks to everyone who made this possible.”, said AISIN Türkiye’s president Murat Ayabakan.

AISIN Türkiye will continue to track the plant’s performance in real time through a digital monitoring system, ensuring transparency, optimization, and continuous improvement.

In memory of Kunitake Hideki

The solar power plant will carry the name of the late Kunitake Hideki, Vice president of AISIN Türkiye. Mr. Hideki contributed greatly to the establishment of the plant but passed away shortly before the inauguration of the facility. Naming the plant after him stands as a lasting recognition of his leadership and commitment to a greener future.
